What a style code is
A style code is the brand code for one model in one colorway. Resellers often call it the SKU; Nike calls it a style number and adidas an article number. Every size of that colorway shares the same code, which makes it the natural handle for research, price tracking and catalog work.
- Nike and Jordan: six characters, a dash and three more, for example CD4487-100. The part after the dash usually distinguishes the colorway.
- adidas: usually six characters mixing letters and digits, for example HQ6448, with no dash.
Where to find the style code
The box label prints the style code next to the barcode, size and colorway. Many shoes repeat it on the size tag inside the tongue, which helps when the box is gone. Copy it exactly as printed, including the dash on Nike codes.
Style code or barcode
The relationship is one to many. One style code covers a whole colorway; each size of it has its own barcode, a GTIN such as a 12-digit UPC-A or 13-digit EAN-13. Going from a barcode to a product is the everyday scan-and-identify direction, and that lookup is free. Going from a style code down to the barcodes is the reverse direction, which is what the paid feature does.
Style-code search suits work that starts from a list rather than a box: matching a supplier spreadsheet of style codes to barcodes before stock arrives, filling in barcodes for a catalog built from style numbers, or checking which sizes of a release we hold codes for. How reverse lookup by SKU works
