Where to find the barcode on a Nike box
Nike and Jordan shoe boxes carry a printed label, normally on one end of the box. It groups the details of the pair inside:
- The barcode: vertical bars with a row of digits printed underneath. Those digits are what you type into the lookup.
- The style number: six characters, a dash and three more, for example CD4487-100. It names the model and colorway, not the size.
- Sizes in US, UK, EU and centimetres, plus the colorway name.
Checking a stack of boxes? Most USB and Bluetooth handheld scanners type the digits like a keyboard, so you can click into the search box and scan. On a phone, any scanner app that copies the number works the same way.
What the digits on a Nike barcode mean
On boxes sold in the US the code is usually a 12-digit UPC-A, which GS1 calls a GTIN-12. Boxes for other markets often show a 13-digit EAN-13 (GTIN-13). Either way, the number identifies one sellable unit: this model, in this colorway, in this size. That is the key difference from the style number, which every size of a colorway shares.
Read left to right, a GTIN starts with a GS1 company prefix licensed to the brand owner, continues with an item reference the brand assigns to the product, and ends with a check digit calculated from all the other digits. The prefix does not tell you which country the shoe was made in.
A 12-digit UPC and the same number with a zero in front are the same GTIN, so if your number is not found as typed, the lookup retries it with a leading 0.
Why a Nike barcode lookup can fail
- A misread digit. One wrong digit points to a different product or to nothing. Run the number through the barcode validation tool: if the check digit fails, it was copied wrong.
- Letters in the search. The lookup takes digits only, 8 to 15 of them. A style number such as CD4487-100 is rejected here; searching by style number is covered on the style code lookup page.
- A code we do not hold. Our catalog is strongest for sneakers and streetwear, but no database holds every barcode. A valid number we have no record of returns a not-found page.

What the free lookup shows
