Where to find the barcode on an adidas box
adidas shoe boxes carry a printed size label, usually on one end of the box. On it you will find:
- The barcode: bars with a row of digits underneath. Type those digits into the lookup.
- The article number: the adidas code for a model and colorway. It is usually six characters mixing letters and digits, such as HQ6448, with no dash.
- Sizes in several systems, plus the colorway name.

adidas UPC or EAN: what the digits mean
adidas labels commonly show a 13-digit EAN-13, which GS1 calls a GTIN-13. If your label shows 12 digits, it is a UPC-A (GTIN-12). The lookup accepts both, so an adidas UPC lookup and an adidas EAN lookup are the same search: use whichever number sits under the bars.
Like every GTIN, the number is a GS1 company prefix licensed to the brand owner, an item reference for that exact product and size, and a final check digit. Many adidas EANs start with a prefix between 400 and 440, the range issued by GS1 Germany. That shows where the company prefix was licensed, not where the shoe was made.
An EAN-13 that starts with 0 is the same number as a 12-digit UPC with the zero removed. The GTIN converter does that conversion if another system asks for one format.
Why an adidas barcode lookup can fail
- The article number was entered. The free lookup takes digits only, 8 to 15 of them, so a code such as HQ6448 is rejected. Searching by article number is the paid reverse lookup described on the style code lookup page.
- A digit was misread. Small print and creased labels cause most misses. The barcode validation tool recomputes the check digit and tells you whether the number can be valid at all.
- The code is not in our catalog. Coverage is strongest for sneakers and streetwear. A valid code we hold no record of returns a not-found page.
What the free lookup shows
For a code we hold, the public page shows the product name, a product image, the barcode type and the first four characters of the article number.
