New Balance Barcode Lookup
Type the digits printed under the barcode on a New Balance box label to see which shoe it belongs to. Free, no account needed.
What a New Balance box label shows
A New Balance box label groups four details: the barcode with its row of digits, the style number, the size and the width. The lookup needs the digits under the bars. The example on this page, 194182854817, is the 12-digit UPC-A of a New Balance 530 in White Silver Navy.
- The style number: letters, the model number and more letters, written with no dash, for example U9060ECA or M990GL6.
- The width: a short code such as D or 2E printed with the size.
- The size in several systems.
The style number is usually repeated on the label inside the tongue, which helps when the box is missing. The barcode on the box is still the only number this lookup accepts.
How to read a New Balance style number
New Balance builds the style number around the model number that is also the name of the shoe. According to the brand, the letters in front give the gender or category: M for men, W for women, K for kids and U for unisex. The letters after the model number separate one colorway from another, and on some lines a final digit gives the version.
- U9060ECA: U for unisex, 9060 for the model, ECA for the colorway.
- M990GL6 and W990GL6: the men's and women's 990 in version 6.
Not every code opens with one of those four letters. Style numbers for the 550 start with BB, as in BB550PB1, and those for the 530 start with MR, as in MR530SG. Read the model number in the middle first, then the letters around it.
Width is part of the product
New Balance sells shoes in more than one width and prints the width on the label. The brand lists these codes:
- Men: B narrow, D standard, 2E wide, 4E extra wide.
- Women: 2A narrow, B standard, D wide, 2E extra wide.
The letter D therefore means standard on a men's shoe and wide on a women's shoe. Under GS1 rules every variant that can be ordered separately needs its own GTIN, so the same length in D and in 2E should carry two different barcodes. Take the width from the label when you list or receive a pair. The free lookup result does not show size or width.
Style numbers for popular New Balance models
The 9060, the 550, the 2002R and the 530 are four popular New Balance lifestyle models. Their style numbers follow the same shape with different prefixes:
- 9060: U9060 plus colorway letters, for example U9060ECA.
- 550: BB550 plus colorway characters.
- 2002R: M2002R plus colorway letters.
- 530: MR530 plus colorway letters.
The model number on its own cannot be looked up. 9060 or 550 is not a barcode, and one model covers many barcodes: one for each colorway, size and width.
Lookup mistakes specific to New Balance
- Typing the model or style number. The barcode lookup takes digits only. A code such as U9060ECA belongs on the style code lookup page.
- Mixing up M and W. M990GL6 and W990GL6 are two products with two sets of barcodes. A barcode from the women's box will not resolve to the men's listing.
- Ignoring the width. Two boxes of the same shoe and size can carry different barcodes if the widths differ.
- A misread digit. The barcode validation tool recomputes the check digit and shows whether the number can be valid.
- A code we do not hold. A valid barcode we have no record of returns a not-found page.
What the free lookup shows
For a barcode we hold, the public page shows the product name, a product image, the brand, the barcode type and the first four characters of the style number. For the example above that is MR53. Size, release date, retail price, colorway and description need a signed-in account with API requests available, on a paid plan or the free trial. Plans are in the pricing section.
For other labels, the ASICS barcode lookup page covers a brand that prints 13-digit EANs, the Nike barcode lookup page covers the dashed Nike style number, and the sneaker barcode lookup works for any box.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the barcode on a New Balance box?
The barcode is on the printed label on the box, next to the style number, size and width. Type the digits printed under the bars.
What does a New Balance style number look like?
A New Balance style number is letters, the model number and more letters with no dash, such as U9060ECA or M990GL6. It names a model and colorway, not a size.
What do M, W and U mean in a New Balance style number?
New Balance uses M for men, W for women, K for kids and U for unisex at the start of a style number. Some models use other prefixes, such as BB on the 550.
Does shoe width change the New Balance barcode?
Under GS1 rules each separately ordered variant needs its own GTIN, so the same size in two widths should have two barcodes. Read the width from the box label.
Can I look up a New Balance shoe by model number?
No. A model number such as 9060 or 550 is not a barcode. Enter the full UPC from the box, or search the full style number on the style code lookup page.

UPC vs EAN vs GTIN: What Is the Difference
UPC is not an alternative to GTIN. A UPC-A barcode carries a 12-digit GTIN-12, so UPC is one member of the wider GTIN family.
