What an Air Jordan box label shows

Jordan is a Nike brand, and an Air Jordan box label is laid out like a Nike one. It carries the barcode with a row of digits underneath, the style number, the sizes and the colorway name. The lookup needs the digits under the bars.

The example on this page, 198729729361, is a 12-digit UPC-A. It belongs to the Jordan 4 Retro Toro Bravo released in 2026, whose style number is FQ8138-600. The barcode names one size of that shoe. The style number names the shoe in every size.

How to read a Jordan style number

A Jordan style number has nine characters: six, a dash and three. The six characters before the dash identify the model, and the three digits after it identify the colorway. The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG shows the pattern well, because many colorways share the same first six characters:

  • DZ5485-612: Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Chicago Lost and Found.
  • DZ5485-100, DZ5485-003, DZ5485-402: other colorways of the same model.
  • DN3707-100: Air Jordan 3 Retro White Cement Reimagined.
  • FQ8138-600: Air Jordan 4 Retro Toro Bravo (2026).

Current pairs mix letters and digits before the dash. Older pairs use digits only, such as 308497-603. Both forms are style numbers, and neither one is a barcode.

Retro releases: same name, different barcode

Jordan Brand brings the same colorway back years apart, and each release is a separate product. The Air Jordan 4 Toro Bravo from 2013 has the style number 308497-603. The 2026 release has FQ8138-600. The two share a nickname and a color scheme, but not a style number and not a barcode.

That matters for anyone pricing or listing a pair, because a price or a listing for one release does not apply to the other. Our product names carry the year in brackets where a colorway has more than one release, as in Jordan 4 Retro Toro Bravo (2026). Read the year in the result before you assume which pair you have.

Grade school and adult pairs are separate products

Jordan releases often come in adult and grade school sizes, and the two versions get different style numbers. For the 2026 Toro Bravo, the adult pair is FQ8138-600 and the grade school pair is FQ8213-600. Each version has its own run of barcodes, one per size.

A barcode from a grade school box will not resolve to the adult product. If the result names a different version than the listing you are comparing against, check the first six characters of the style number on the label. The free result shows the first four, which is enough to tell FQ81 from FQ82.

Lookup mistakes specific to Jordan boxes

  • Typing the style number. FQ8138-600 contains letters and a dash, and the barcode lookup takes digits only. Search style numbers on the style code lookup page.
  • Searching the nickname. Names such as Toro Bravo or White Cement are not printed as a code and cannot be looked up here. Use the digits under the bars.
  • Assuming the release. A retro colorway can exist in several years. The barcode settles which one the box belongs to.
  • A misread digit. The barcode validation tool recomputes the check digit and shows whether the number can be valid.
  • A code we do not hold. A valid barcode we have no record of returns a not-found page.

A match confirms which product a barcode belongs to. It does not prove the pair is genuine, because a real barcode can be printed on a copied label. Our guide on checking sneakers with a barcode explains what the check can and cannot show.

What the free Jordan lookup shows

For a barcode we hold, the public page shows the product name, a product image, the brand, the barcode type and the first four characters of the style number. Size, release date, retail price, colorway and description need a signed-in account with API requests available, on a paid plan or the free trial. Plans are in the pricing section.

Nike boxes follow the same label layout and are covered on the Nike barcode lookup page. For any other brand, start from the sneaker barcode lookup.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the barcode on an Air Jordan box?

The barcode is on the printed size label on the box, next to the style number and sizes. Type the digits printed under the bars.

Is a Jordan barcode different from a Nike barcode?

No. Jordan is a Nike brand and its boxes use the same kind of label: a UPC or EAN barcode for each size and a nine-character style number for the colorway.

What does a Jordan style number look like?

A Jordan style number is six characters, a dash and three digits, such as FQ8138-600. The part before the dash identifies the model and the part after it identifies the colorway.

Do the 2013 and 2026 Toro Bravo have the same barcode?

No. The 2013 Air Jordan 4 Toro Bravo is style 308497-603 and the 2026 release is FQ8138-600. They are separate products with separate barcodes.

Can a Jordan barcode lookup tell me if the pair is fake?

No. A Jordan barcode lookup confirms which product a barcode belongs to. A real barcode can be copied onto a fake label, so use it alongside a physical inspection.
